in the last season episode of the year (2020) we have a very even 1954 season to talk about, some strange things are happening at StKilda, The injury curse well and truly hits the reigning premiers, Geelong get back to business, South Melbourne turn to another ex-champion, Hawthorn beat Melbourne to recruit a hot new South Australian recruit, and Ron Barassi begins his on-ball role, that will change the face of the VFL, finally disaster strikes at Windy Hill in round 9 with fans in tears….all this and more

Episode 72 - 1953

In the 1953 episode, we discuss a big Father-Son selection who makes their debut. StKilda’s season is derailed by injury and unfortunate player actions. One of our favorites is back at South Melbourne.  Footscray, in their up year, gets the win they have been craving for soooooo long. Fitzroy managed to just avoid an embarrassing scoreline and there is an unfortunate number of off-field incidents that affected different teams. All this and more....

Episode 71 - 1952

In our 1952 season episode, we get right into the VFL’s bold plan to push Australian Rules football on the rest of the country, with NATIONAL DAY!!! John Coleman is back and firing for the Bombers, Geelong continue to dominate with the form that saw them win it in 51! Collingwood seems to be channeling the Machine team and is back in a big way. Mopsy Fraser takes on the Twomey Clan when Richmond play the Pies and South Melbourne and Carlton race for the last finals spot, it all coming down to the very last day of the home and away season

Episode 70 - 1951

In this episode, we are looking at 1951 and we have a surprising team take out the wooden spoon, Fitzroy pick up where they left off in 1950, a swans superstar has an absolute day out! Geelong’s team clicks into gear, Footscray unearths some future legends of the game and the final round match between Essendon and Carlton steals the headlines!

Episode 69 - 1950

On the 1950 episode, we get stuck into....two clubs feeling the effect of new coaching appointments, StKilda having their best start since 1907, while North Melbourne, with a brand new identify, pick up where they left off last season. Geelong begins to wake up and make a late run for September action, we discuss the Brisbane Carnival and Essendon continue to dominate, despite losing 5 of their premiership heroes.

Episode 68 - Jock McHale

After 38 years a Collingwood coach and 47 years there (as player or coach) Jock McHale finally retired (see our 1949 episode). 

We thought it fitting to wrap up his career by having a discussion with the author of the Jock McHale book, Glenn McFarlane.

Episode 67 - 1949

On the 1949 episode, we meet the man behind the medal, John Coleman at Essendon. The Lakeside pennant this year has a bit of extra bite!  Geelong start to show some real promise, while we have an interesting top of the table leader at the end of the home and away season. Norm Smith has his first taste of coaching, while Jock McHale has his last. We say goodbye to one of the legends of the game, And Carlton continues their odd/ even season rise and fall.
