Episode 70 - 1951

In this episode, we are looking at 1951 and we have a surprising team take out the wooden spoon, Fitzroy pick up where they left off in 1950, a swans superstar has an absolute day out! Geelong’s team clicks into gear, Footscray unearths some future legends of the game and the final round match between Essendon and Carlton steals the headlines!

Episode 69 - 1950

On the 1950 episode, we get stuck into....two clubs feeling the effect of new coaching appointments, StKilda having their best start since 1907, while North Melbourne, with a brand new identify, pick up where they left off last season. Geelong begins to wake up and make a late run for September action, we discuss the Brisbane Carnival and Essendon continue to dominate, despite losing 5 of their premiership heroes.

Episode 68 - Jock McHale

After 38 years a Collingwood coach and 47 years there (as player or coach) Jock McHale finally retired (see our 1949 episode). 

We thought it fitting to wrap up his career by having a discussion with the author of the Jock McHale book, Glenn McFarlane.

Episode 67 - 1949

Episode 64 - 1946

In the 1946 episode of the Kick to kick podcast, we are still talking about the fallout from the bloodbath. The League brings in some big changes to the game, you know they love to tinker with things. Again there are big changes to the top 4, another superstar of the 1930’s tries to make a comeback, the doggies kick some big scores and the Bombers and Demons go back to looking like the team they wear in the early 40s!

Episode 63 - 1945

In our 1945 episode, we get into the last of the war years, and we have a very interesting year to discuss as 1945 is the year of the infamous bloodbath, and we can't wait to get stuck into it. Also, 1945 has a once in a league anomaly, that will never ever happen again! We have a team with a new nickname! Episode 62 - 1944

In out 1944 season episode, we are back to a full quota of 12 teams, no more compromised fixture!!!!  Richmond comes out hot and are the team to beat early, but the race for the top 4 is one of the closest-ever!! Fred Fanning starts to kick some goals with Melbourne. Over at Essendon, things look to be coming unstuck, and Carlton and Footscray play the ultimate final round showdown with everything on the line. Episode 61 - 1943

Welcome to the 1943 episode, where the war is again affecting the league. Again Geelong sits out, but the VFL comes up with a fair way to play the season out, knowing that teams need to have byes, which will then see me raise a question about Collingwood. We will also discuss Roy Cazaly’s rebranding of Hawthorn, Fitzroy seems to be back after a long time playing in mediocrity, with captain Fred Hughson being awarded a world title! Jack Dyer’s prediction of vengeance begins to come to fruition, and the lightening premiership is back!
