With the world alliances quickly disintegrating the Victorian football league faced a changing of the guards…of sorts, with new teams rising to power. Melbourne, having missed finals last year, began to dominate and their big scores ticked over week after week. Hawthorn achieved a first..., and Fitzroy began to show more glimpses of past glories. Several league coaches have been replaced and we will find out their fate. Dick Reynolds takes on a new role at Essendon, and at Collingwood, Jock McHale does something for the last time ever. We have several poems and a song to share and we continue our chat with guest star Danny McGinlay.

Wednesday Feb 26, 2020
Before chatting about the 1939 VFL season we had a good old fashion footy chat with Bulldogs conspiracy theorist and part time banner man/game day joke crafter/ fellow podcaster; Danny McGinlay.
We chat about his role in making banners, and the history of banners in football. We play a fun game that really pushes Kaz and Charlie to their limits.
This episode should be considered as a prelude to the 1939 season!
Many thanks to Danny McGinlay for joining us in this recording. You can find out all about his upcoming comedy shows here http://dannymcginlay.com/

We get stuck into our first season of the 2020 year, looking at 1938. And things kickoff right where we left them, Jock McHale still has great aspirations for Collingwood, but for the 3rd year in a row the tribunal rears its head. Checker Hughes, at Melbourne, is still trying to beat him. Carlton think they finally have the pieces of the puzzle to make it all the way to the grand final. StKilda win their first flag, South complete their fall from grace, Fitzroy begin life without Haydn Bunton. And a schism develops between the leagues in Victoria.

We also look at some of our shows stats across the year
look at the results of our yearly awards, including things like best goal, best rule idea, best on field incident, and more.
and to finish off we try the almost impossible task of naming our team of the years 1921 - 1937.

Episode 49 - 1937
Monday Dec 09, 2019
Monday Dec 09, 2019
We are living in a world where Collingwood has won back to back flags to take their tally to 11, head and shoulders above the rest of the competition. Their competition would come from the Checker Hughes led demons, who had in 36 returned to finals, and this team accomplished something they hadn’t since 1921. A mid season trip changes things for Fitzroy (specifically Haydn Bunton). The foreign Legion finally surrender despite a favorite son returning to the club. Carlton begin to slip and Hawthorn are in a spot they never expected….

Episode 48 - 1936
Tuesday Nov 26, 2019
Tuesday Nov 26, 2019
At the beginning of the 1936 season Collingwood were reigning premiers, although South Melbourne fans would continue to cry that they only won it because Bob Pratt was hit by a truck. Both teams would again feature in the pointy end of the season. The press argue over high scoring, We set the record straight on Captain Blood, Fitzroy have their worst season so far but end with a shining light, Richmond have some losses to teams they have not lost too in league history, and we have a very special guest with us, from the"They Came to Play" and "Outer Sanctum" podcasts, we welcome Tess Armstrong!
Also you will probably notice a few chops and changes in the recording. After our initial recording there were a few other things we wanted to put in, so it won't sound as smooth, but the episode is chock full of interesting tid bits, some songs and fun stories
language warning, there is 1 use of profanity in this episode!

In this 1935 season a new look magpies outfit with a combination of young and old are back near the top. South Melbourne, after failing in the Grand final last season look for the premiership as a redemption for their previous season. Geelong fall apart before the season even starts. Footscray finally get their man. Dan Minouge moves to his 5th league club. And a Brownlow medallist calls time….really really early in the season on his career. And not to forget possibly the biggest Grand Final week news story ever. All that and more…

Episode 46 - 1934
Thursday Oct 24, 2019
Thursday Oct 24, 2019
The team to beat in 1934 were the reigning premiers, South Melbourne or as some called them, The Foreign Legion, with their team of talented imports, taking the flag from Richmond in 1933.
Other teams started to employ a similar tactic to build their teams up.
Richmond got off to a flyer, looking very dangerous, while South’s form was actually up and down. Collingwood was back near the top with an injection of youth. North Melbourne’s optimism doesn’t last long, and Footscray’s coach finds himself in an interesting predicament. The Brownlow race ends in interesting circumstances and Carlton and Collingwood revisit the animosity of the 1910 grand Final.

We dive deeply into the 1933 season....
Richmond come off the back of a premiership and look to make it back to back, however Melbourne have poached their premiership coach in their own attempt to achieve success. Hawthorn have to deal with not 1, but 2 tragedies throughout the season. Fitzroy charge towards a top 4 finish, Essendon, despite the poor year, unearth a future champion, Collingwood look towards a rebuild, South Melbourne continue their recruiting spree and half of the teams in the league have new coaches. And to top all that we get some new team nicknames.

Episode 44 - 1932
Monday Sep 16, 2019
Monday Sep 16, 2019
This is the 1932 episode, also known as 'Frankenpod', it has been a busy few weeks for those of us that run this podcast, so we have recorded bits here and there when we could, we weren't always in the same room together. This is the result, not as smooth as we would like, but ready to go.
We also officially welcome new kick to kick host Anna (AKA; Moz) to the show!
Here is a rundown for the episode. Things once again implode at Stkilda, while South Melbourne have devised a genius plan to lure new recruits over to play for them. Speaking of new recruits a well known one begins at Fitzroy, while new captain Haydn Bunton takes over. Geelong struggle to maintain the same form they had in the previous year and are in doubt of playing finals. Collingwood continue to play at a high standard and Carlton unearth their own new recruits that help them stay up the top.
The hit songs played over the history section are Louis Armstrong's All of Me, and Bing Crosby singing "Brother can you spare a dime".
